Three Days On The Road And I'm Gonna Make It Home Tonight

Wowsers, what an itch! It starts off innocent enough, a little tickling itch that won't go away. Then it starts to get serious and you notice the skin beneath the itch is starting to resemble the complexion of a pickle with acne. At least that's my story and I'm sticking with it.

What I had was Poison Ivy and it came as a surprise because when I was a kid I was either immune to it or I had never encountered it before. It turns out that when I'd been cutting wood three days earlier the vines I had been clearing off the logs were definitely not Virginia Creeper.

Once the oil from the Poison Ivy gets on your skin it takes about three days to began itching and then look out.

Okay, let me confess: there is no quick fix to Poison Ivy besides getting the oil off of your skin as fast as possible. But as I suffered with my Poison Ivy reaction I discovered a way to stop the itching for hours at a time. Now mind you , I have not tested this method with others and I have not checked this method with a dermatologist, but I have used it, ever since I discovered it, with great results.

When I was in the shower after that first fateful encounter with the noxious weed I found that when I put my rash covered arm under the hot water spray it exploded with the most fierce itching I had ever experienced in my life: It curled my toes. The next thing I noticed was that when I removed the itching limb from the hot spray the itching not only ceased suddenly and completely, but it did not return for hours.

When the devilish itching started up again, later that day, I doused the rash in water as hot as I could stand. Bam! Same results. If you try my quick fix to the itch of Poison Ivy be prepared to be jolted by an itch-tsunami when you subject it to the hot water. Make sure the water is as hot as you can stand, but not hot enough to burn you. Leave it there for just a few seconds and voila you should have hours of relief. By the way, pat the affected area dry, do not rub it with the towel.

Well, that's it, that's my story and I'm stickin' with it.
